In 2017, Johannesburg took a spot alongside New York, London, Paris and Atlanta as one of the cities hosting Afropunk, a cult alternative music festival which has been described as ‘the most multicultural festival in the USA’. The first Afropunk festival took place at the South African heritage landmark Constitution Hill on the 30 & 31 of December 2017.
With a world class line-up of the biggest names in black alternative music, Afropunk Joburg 2017 was one of the most exciting music events hosted in Johannesburg in recent years. International headline acts included Anderson Paak and Laura Mvula, while representing South Africa were some of the biggest names in the local alternative music scene such as The Brother Moves On, Spoek Mathambo, Nakhane, Thandiswa Mazwai, Black Motion and Urban Village.
Duma Collective provided the event with Talent Hospitality, as well dressing room management, rider procumbent and artist list. The team was entrusted with ensuring the comfort and satisfaction of artists and talent during the course of the two-day event.
